15 ways to deep clean your body, spirit and surroundings

The start of a new year serves as the perfect time to cleanse your body, mind, spirit, and environment of any impurities that weigh you down. Jennie offers insight on how decluttering and rejuvenating your surroundings can purify and fortify your whole self.
Body
  • Focus on eating clean. Research what foods are in season. Stay hydrated with water. If you feel a cleanse would do your body good, start here.
  • Treat yourself to a detoxifying Infrared Sauna session, or perhaps a full body massage.
Mind
  • Cut back on social and other engagements, when possible.
  • Avoid office gossip.
  • Allow yourself time in the evening to unwind, even for 20 minutes.
  • Take a break from media exposure (social sites, TV, online browsing) Replenish that time by reading a book, listening to music, meditating, repeat your affirmations, take a bubble bath, give yourself a pedicure, do some gentle stretching, journal, or put together a photo album.

Spirit
Take a moment to write or verbally record a list of the people, issues, places, things that stress you out and weigh you down. Next, jot down some ideas for how to minimize or eliminate those stressors in your life. Then close your eyes and visualize each one of them floating away with each deep exhale. This 10 minute guided meditation is a great way to relieve stress and find inner peace.

Environment
  • Take note and categorize all of the clutter - in your home, in your car, at work - and devise a simple action plan to tackle a different area each week/month, allocating one to three hours at a time.
  • Give your home a deep clean. Your space can significantly affect your productivity, focus and overall mood.
  • Organize (and categorize) your pantry and refrigerator. Having healthy options visibly accessible is convenient and strategic. You are much more inclined to stick to your plan of mindful nutrition when decisions driven by hunger are immediately made easier.
  • Switch out toxic cleaners for cleaner, greener ones.
  • Create a zen space that clears both your mind and air.
  • Light an aromatherapeutic candle that comforts you.
  • Add some color, cherished photos, or flowers to brighten your space. Edit accessories and remove any pieces that only serve as clutter.
