Longevity fitness instructor spotlight: 5 questions with maggie temple

Meet Maggie, the newest addition to the Longevity Fitness team!
Maggie is passionate about helping people challenge their bodies while deepening their understanding of movement through Pilates. She has been teaching Pilates professionally since 2008 and has since learned so much from her clients and fellow instructors. In addition to her Pilates certifications through Pilates Method Alliance and Balanced Body, Maggie is also certified to teach TRX, Barre Above, BOSU and TriggerPoint myofascial release.  When she's not at the studio, she enjoys running, yoga, hiking, stand up paddle surfing, and walks with her Boxer pup. Maggie has been married to her college sweetheart for 26 years and has two sons.
Tell us about your Pilates journey. When did you begin teaching, and was there an influence behind your pursuit?
I received my Pilates comprehensive certification in 2008. I discovered Pilates after a running injury while trying to get back into shape after my second child. I realized after 3 months of consistent Pilates sessions, I had lost the “muffin top” I was trying to get rid, along with my back pain from lifting two small children all day, and I was receiving compliments from family and friends that I looked strong and healthy. I was hooked from there and ultimately pursued Pilates certification at the studio I was training at to share my passion with others.

Where are you from and what brought you to Charleston?
I’m originally from Western North Carolina area, where I met my husband in college. We moved to Charleston, SC in 1996, where we enjoyed the next 10 years. We then moved to Raleigh, NC where we raised our two boys. We have recently moved back to the Charleston area and are excited to enjoy our  “empty nester” years in the low country.

How would you describe your teaching style and approach to fitness?
I enjoy teaching a more athletic-based session while also incorporating a strong sense of mind-body connection.

Name your go-to motivating song and cool-down song in your workout playlist.
Motivating song: Hello Good Morning by Diddy
Cool Down song: Sunday Best by Surfaces

What's your 'nonnegotiable' when it comes to fitness and wellness?
Consistency. I’ve always been under the belief, “If you don’t move it, you lose it”. Whether that is taking a challenging class, lifting weights or just taking a walk - always keep moving. I enjoy practicing yoga for the stretching and the meditative moments it gives me during the week. I find that this is part of my “self care”, along with eating healthy and drinking lots of water throughout the day.
