longevity fitness now carrying adaptogen-infused cold brew, A | DASH

We are so excited to now carry a|dash, the women- and sister-founded organic cold brew infused with Ashwagandha. You may have seen their 8 oz cans locally at The Daily, Mercantile & Mash, Dellz Cafe and Veggie Bin - and now, you can conveniently grab one for yourself before or after a session! Megan Broderick of a|dash 'spills the beans' in our Q&A below. Interested in giving this magical cold brew a try? Sample a|dash and meet Megan on Wednesday, September 1 from 8:30am to 1:30pm, right here at the Longevity Penthouse.
A|Dash is a cold brew coffee infused with just a dash of adaptogens, a select group of super-herbs and super- mushrooms that support the body's natural ability to deal with stress. Brewed with organic coffee extract, KSM-66 Ashwagandha and slightly sweetened with monkfruit, one 8 ounce can packs 110 mg of caffeine.

The concept began in 2017 when co-founder Kelly experienced extreme postpartum anxiety, depression and hormonal imbalance after her son. A functional practitioner incorporated adaptogens into her wellness routine and within 6 months, she experienced drastic improvements in both her labs and quality of life. With an interstate move and an abundance of work-related travels, Kelly found herself struggling to keep up with her adaptogen routine - constantly lugging supplements and powders to mix into her cold brew. She soon realized there had to be an easier way: cold brew with adaptogens already built in. And so, the concept of a|dash was born, and through much conversation and strategizing, the sisters launched the wellness brand in April of 2021.

OUR CHAT WITH MEGAN BRODERICK OF A|DASH

We love that a|dash is women- AND sister-owned! Do you two visit each other often?
We love to say we're sister-owned in sister cities; Charleston where I am based and Nashville where Kelly is based. We competed against each other in college soccer, lived together in our early 20s, and now visit each other pretty often. Funny story, Kelly first pitched the concept of a|dash to me when she was visiting me in New Zealand, where I was living at the time in January 2020; I encouraged her to move forward with it. I consulted remotely from that time until February 2021 when I had resettled back in the US. While I was staying with her in Nashville, I came onboard as a co-founder and COO just in time for our family and friends launch and then the public launch in April 2021. While most of our visits have been business-related this year, we always build in some time for nice dinners and non-business sister chats at night.
And speaking of Nashville, tell us your 3 must-try activities/restaurants/cafes:
There are so many to choose from, so it is hard to limit it to just 3, but to keep it simple, here are our must-visits in Music City.
  • Eat: E+Rose Wellness Company is a must-visit. They have 5 locations throughout Nashville, all with a slightly different vibe but the same focus on delicious and nutritious food & beverages in Nashville. We love the made-to-order Açai  Bowl and the Shroom Shake! They also carry fun and innovative health products in their bodega/ market (like a|dash!)
  • Stay/Visit/Nosh: The Graduate Nashville is the most IG-worthy spot downtown. Their White Limousine Rooftop Bar was voted one of America's Bars in GQ and it doesn't disappoint. Great food, views, and a massive Dolly Parton installation for a great photo op. The Lobby is picturesque and serves as a space for working and noshing at the cafe. If you can book a room here definitely do it, if not, you must visit for a drink and photoshoot.
  • Enjoy: Nissan Stadium, after all, it is football season and the Titans are fun to watch. Nissan is located downtown so it makes it convenient for sightseeing, bar hopping, and rooting on the Titans all in one day. If you aren't a football fan and are looking to partake in some honky-tonk fun, try out Printer's Alley. The feel of Broadway without the crowds and a little more local flavor.  If you are up for a real party, we are infamous for our pedal taverns tours that let you cruise around Broadway and downtown Nashville while getting a little exercise at the same time.

How does the caffeine-intake compare to a regular cup of coffee?
We have purposefully crafted a|dash to be lower in caffeine than nearly all other cold brew coffees on the market. We use a proprietary method to reduce the level of caffeine to 110mg per 8 oz. can, where most others sit between 200-300mg per 8 oz bottle/can. If you are brewing your own coffee at home, you are consuming between 90-100 mg per 8 oz serving; but, most people are drinking more than 8 oz. due to our very cute, but oversized mugs.

The addition of Ashwagandha supports your adrenal system, so even though we contain slightly more caffeine than your home-brewed 8 oz. cup, you will experience the benefits of caffeine in a more balanced, sustained manner without the peak, jitters, and then crash that can be associated with caffeine.

Is a|dash suitable for those who have a hard time tolerating acid?
Cold brew coffee typically contains less titratable acidity (TA) than hot coffee, making it easier to digest; so for those who are more sensitive to acid, experience acid reflux, or suffer from GI issues, cold brew may be a better option. At a|dash, we have chosen to use organic cold brew coffee with a pH level over 5, which is 4x less acidic than most hot brewed coffee that typically has a pH range of 4. Our #1 tip whether is always to enjoy your coffee with food; this can help aid in digestion and reduce the impact on your gut!

Try a sample of a|dash at our Penthouse pop-up on Wednesday, September 1st. To learn more in the meantime, visit drinkadash.com and give them a follow at @drinkadash.
