build your own protein smoothie

What’s not to love about smoothies? They are convenient, customizable, portable and you can easily pack in the protein. They can taste like a tropical beach vacation drink or decadent chocolate dessert, depending on your mood or cravings. If you’re new to the wonderful world of smoothies, let us walk you through how to build your own nutrient-packed, delicious blend.
Step 1: Choose your base
A liquid base is necessary. Great options include:
  • Milk or alternative to dairy (almond, oat, soy, coconut, rice, hemp, flax seed)
  • Coconut water
  • Tap or bottled water
  • Juice (use freshly squeezed if possible to avoid added sugars)

Step 2: Choose your flavor
  • Fruit of choice (frozen or fresh)
  • Cacao powder for chocolate
  • Nut butters like peanut, almond or cashew
  • Flavored stevia drops

Step 3: Add protein
  • Protein power of choice (whey or plant-based)
If you prefer to not use a protein powder, you can add traditional or greek style yogurt, single ingredient plant-based proteins like hemp seeds or nut butters for a boost of protein.
