prep your pantry for hurricane season with these healthy non-perishable options

With September right around the corner, hurricane season (and pantry stocking season) is upon us. You can still stay committed to your health goals with these nutrient-packed, shelf-stable, tasty storm season staples. Gone are the days of living off of peanut butter and white bread. Thankfully, healthier pantry items are becoming more readily available in stores and online.
Packaged foods can often contain poor quality or synthetic ingredients, extra additives and preservatives, so when choosing items to keep in stock, aim for:
  • Quality ingredients in order to increase the nutritional value
  • Natural foods with limited to additives and preservatives
  • Protein-packed sources to increase satiety and stabilize energy
  • Sweet treats made with natural or unrefined sugars
